Upper Captiva Island is also known as North Captiva Island.
It is a beautiful tropical island bordered by Pine Island Sound and the
Gulf of Mexico, and is situated west of Fort Myers Florida, north of Naples
and south of Tampa.
-
This peaceful and private island with long stretches of secluded
beaches is accessed only by boat or small plane into a private airstrip.
The island is approximately 4 miles long and ½ mile wide at its
widest. A little more than half of the island is owned by the state
of Florida and is managed as a preserve. This geo-park looks much
the way it was 400 years ago untouched by man. It is visited by hundreds
of birds, some nesting on the shoreline. Protected birds like Plovers
have been spotted nesting in this area. Other birds to be seen are
Bald Eagles, Osprey, Terns of many varieties, Roseate Spoonbills, Wood
Storks, Kingfishers, Black Oystercatchers, Skimmers, Brown Pelican, White
Pelican, Great Blue Herons, and many many more.
-
There are about 260 homes on the island and of those approximately
100 are available for rent. Two small restaurants which serve everything
from hot dogs to wonderful gourmet cuisine, the Island Market and a Deli,
plus two small beach boutiques comprise the only stores on the island.
There are two private clubs that offer swimming pools, tennis, kayaks, bicycles,
steam room, hot tub and more! Transportation
on the island is by electric golf car, bike and foot which helps to keep
the island a peaceful and relaxing get-a-way.
-
This unique island is not for everyone. It is for those who
are lured by serenity and privacy amidst extraordinary natural beauty.
Come watch the spectacular sunrises and sunsets. On our secluded beaches
you can shell, swim, fish, or just watch the manatees and dolphins
at play or the antics of the fabulous water birds. The lush vegetation
invites you to bicycle, walk or golf car ride along the trails.
